Clinical Question
Can urinary incontinence training be provided in groups?
Bottom line
Structured pelvic floor muscle training given by physical therapists in classes over 12 weeks is similarly effective for women with stress or mixed incontinence whether provided individually or in small groups. 2b

Study design: Randomized controlled trial (single-blinded)

Setting: Outpatient (any)
Synopsis
These investigators enrolled 362 women, 60 years or older, with at least 3 episodes of stress or mixed urinary incontinence symptoms per week. The women had longstanding incontinence (average 10 years). The women were randomized, using concealed allocation, to receive 12 weeks of pelvic floor muscle training via individual or group sessions following a single one-on-one session to learn pelvic floor muscle contraction. Analyzing the 319 women (88%) who completed the training and were available at one year, the median percentage reduction in urinary incontinence episodes was similar in both groups: 70% with individual training vs 74% with group-based training. Results were also similar between the groups regarding nocturia, quality of life, and overall symptom scores.

Group Stress Incontinence Pelvic floor training
This is interesting and takes me back to the "Old Days" when we used to have group OT and Physio classes for various disorders.
They also seemed to do well .

Urinary incontinence
We already do group visits for diabetes and hypertension.. this could be done by a family health team.
group physiology for urinary incontinence.
No groups with a pandemic still going, but something to discuss with our local physiotherapists when it's over - we only have one or two who do incontinence training.
