Canadian Syncope Risk Score effectively rules out the risk of serious outcomes after syncope

Clinical Question

Can a risk scoring system effectively identify which patients with syncope are at low risk of serious outcomes?

Bottom line

The Canadian Syncope Risk Score (CSRS) is an effective way of ruling out the risk of serious outcomes over the subsequent 30 days in patients who present with syncope to an emergency department. The score requires the results of an electrocardiogram and troponin test, but a significant number of patients in this study did not have these results and the score was still accurate.
