COVID-19 research briefs: Another study assessing excess mortality in the United States attributed to the pandemic

Clinical Question

What effect has COVID-19 had on mortality by age, race, and ethnicity in the United States between January 2020 and October 2020?

Bottom line

Since January 2020, the United States has experienced almost 300,000 more deaths than would otherwise have been expected. The largest percentage increases were seen among 25- to 44-year-old persons and among Hispanic persons. Only two-thirds of the excess deaths been classified as COVID-19 deaths, suggesting an undercounting of COVID-19 as a cause of death. 2c

Covid deaths

Reiterates the essential nature of precaution at every level.
I insist that I and all my staff continue to wear masks.
This goes for the patients, too. We clean the exam room between each patient. It doesn't take long and no patients have complained.

Excess deaths

It is my understanding that many exceeds dearths are related to non-Covid deaths. Eg: suicide, drug overdose, delayed access to health care. We need to look at the big picture. It’s not just the virus what’s killing people.

Excess non Covid deaths

What is not directed commented is excess death non Covid deaths due delayed dx and treatment of other diseases and conditions due to Covid restriction. What are the years lives lost from excess non Covid vs Covid deaths?

Excess deaths

The Covid naysayers will counter that the excess deaths are murder & suicide, heightened by recession and lockdown isolation. So reporting those numbers in the data would be helpful.

Unexplained excess deaths

Why is it assumed the unexplained excess deaths are secondary to covid?

It appears to me the likely cause of unexplained morbidity and mortality is the harm caused by societal lockdowns.

I read a recent review indicating the number of suicide deaths in Japan, for the month of October, 2020 alone, surpasses the number of covid deaths for the entire past year.

faulty modling projections.

when looking at overall excess deaths using total mortality vs prior years, there is no increase.

deaths in USA since jan 2020
