Conservative treatment of first-degree perineal tears after delivery is a reasonable option

Clinical Question

Do the outcomes of conservative treatment of vaginal or first-degree perineal tears differ from the outcomes after routine suture?

Bottom line

In this small, single-center trial, a strategy of conservative suturing versus routine suturing of first-degree tears did not show any significant differences in the outcomes of wound healing, wound complications, and pain. 1b
