About the program
The COVID-19 pandemic is putting extraordinary pressure on the Canadian health care system. Many physicians are developing timely solutions, but need funding and support to scale their efforts.
Through extensive consultations with the physician innovation community, the Joule team identified an opportunity to advance this important work. Through this $1 million, one-time round of funding, Joule is helping physician innovators, entrepreneurs and start-ups to push for unique solutions to the health care problems posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
We know the demand is great. In just 16 days, Joule received close to 300 applications — more than any Joule grant program to date.
Joule’s expedited granting response to the COVID-19 pandemic is funding innovative solutions that:
- Support and protect the physical and mental health and well-being of front-line health care workers;
- Improve access to care during the COVID-19 pandemic, that benefit both the patient and provider; and
- Address the social determinants of health and improve health equity for vulnerable populations affected by the pandemic.
