Collaborating with the Public Health Agency of Canada to foster the adoption of digital health solutions

Ottawa, ON - March 11, 2019

Joule, a Canadian Medical Association (CMA) company, joined forces with the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) to host an innovation lab on February 26, 2019.

The innovation lab brought together over 60 participants, all in the pursuit of transformational change and improving health care through innovation and the adoption of digital health solutions. Among the participants were representatives from 7 federal government departments: PHAC; Correctional Service of Canada; Global Affairs Canada; Health Canada; Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada; Indigenous Services Canada; and Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat.

The one-day event featured:

  • An innovation showcase, where participants were able to interact with three cutting-edge physician innovators―Dr. Yanick Beaulieu from IIT Reacts, Dr. Kamran Khan from BlueDot and Dr. David Widman from Cloud DX.
  • A panel discussion moderated by Joule CEO, Lindee David, exploring how innovative technologies developed in Canada by Canadian physicians can benefit public health.
  • A real-world exercise scenario where teams came up with use cases and strategized how the Government of Canada could implement digital technologies to improve public health and/ or health outcomes for all Canadians.

From this event, both Joule and PHAC hope to inspire participants to adopt an innovation mindset, increase the awareness of digital health technologies and encourage their adoption within federal government departments to support their respective mandates.

“At Joule we believe that every Canadian should have equal access to quality care,” said Lindee David. “We also believe that the unique challenges around the needs of vulnerable populations, the risks of disease and challenges regarding chronic disease care are well addressed by digital health care solutions. That’s why Joule is working with organizations like PHAC to drive awareness of the potential of these products in the market.”
